Why did we use cotton in our eco nappies + not bamboo?

Ah, the old debate: cotton vs. bamboo for eco nappies. We get asked this question all the time, so we thought it was time to address it!

Both cotton + bamboo have their pros + cons when it comes to eco nappies, so what made us choose cotton in the end? Well, after testing all the different ways we could make our nappies + all the different materials we could use, cotton just happened to be the clear winner. We had to go with the evidence right in front of us. The cotton nappies had less leaks, less breaks + produced less rashes.

Cotton is a lightweight, strong, durable, absorbent, breathable, hypoallergenic, renewable, + biodegradable material, + all round was the perfect material to be next to your baby's delicate skin pretty much all day long.

Cotton has been used for centuries to make clothing + other textiles. It is also a renewable resource + can be grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides. Bamboo, on the other hand, is a grass + is not as absorbent as cotton. It also takes a long time to break down in the environment, making it less sustainable than cotton.

However, when it came to our wipes, bamboo was way ahead. So we have cotton nappies + bamboo wipes. It was all about creating the best, most reliable, luxe eco products for you - our customers - so we had to go with what worked best.

We hope you agree.

Yours in eco consciousness,

Team OK&CO. x
